This week, we mark the close of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, an annual celebration that honors the dedication of our telecommunications professionals-our unsung heroes who are always there to answer the call.

The men and women serving in our 911 Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MECA) dispatch center are the first voices you hear in times of crisis. They are the unseen backbone of public safety, providing not just critical communication but also comfort and calm in the most challenging situations. Their roles are crucial in ensuring the safety and security of our community, and their steadfast professionalism saves lives.

In Jefferson County, our telecommunicators work tirelessly around the clock, every day of the year, to maintain a lifeline for both our citizens and our first responders. They dispatch aid, coordinate emergency responses, and ensure that help is on the way when it is most needed.

As this week comes to a close, we honor their hard work, dedication, and commitment. I encourage each of you to reflect on the vital role these professionals play in our community. To our telecommunicators: thank you for your service, your patience, and your resilience. You are truly our first contact in the moments of an emergency, and your efforts are deeply appreciated.
