DETAINEE FOUND DEAD IN JEFFERSON COUNTY JAIL: Jefferson County, Arkansas - December 13, 2017 – A detainee at Jefferson County’s adult jail, the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center (DBDC) was found dead in his cell just after 9 o’clock this morning.

 

Robert Jones, 49, of Pine Bluff was found unresponsive in his cell during a routine security check of the single person cell occupied by Jones.

 

Detention center medical staff accompanied by deputy jailers entered the cell and found that Jones was unresponsive. Paramedics were dispatched and arrived a short time later in order to assess the welfare of Jones.

 

The cause of death was not immediately apparent and remains under investigation by our Criminal Investigation Division (CID), said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Operations Commander, Major Lafayette Woods, Jr.

 

Jones has been housed at the DBDC since Saturday, December 9, 2017 and was being held on felony probable cause for aggravated assault.

 

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelly and Deputy Coroner Eric Belcher arrived at the DBDC, where Kelly pronounced Jones dead. An official request by the JCSO-CID to send Jones’ body to the State Crime Laboratory for an autopsy to be performed by the State Medical Examiner to determine cause and manner of death has been made.
