Statement from the Sheriff

In response to recent comments made by Justice of the Peace Jimmy Fisher, Sr of Jefferson County Quorum Court District 5, I am compelled to address the claims concerning his personal safety and the performance of my duties as Sheriff of Jefferson County. It is important to clarify the facts and ensure the public receives an accurate portrayal of our dedication to the safety of all elected officials, regardless of their political stance or affiliations.

Justice Fisher's allegations of inadequate protection by my office are not only unfounded but are a clear misrepresentation aimed at diverting attention from his role in the ongoing dysfunction within our county government. His statement to the media, suggesting a need for the Governor's intervention due to a lack of protection, is an egregious attempt at grandstanding during a time when he and a minority of the Quorum Court have stalled government operations, directly impacting the livelihood of our county employees who have not been paid in over a month.

It is imperative to note that during Justice Fisher's tenure-both past and present-on the Quorum Court, he has never reported any threats against him to me or any member of my staff. My office maintains a strict protocol for responding to and investigating any and all threats against public officials, and we take these matters with the utmost seriousness. If Justice Fisher had ever felt his safety was compromised, it is puzzling why he did not seek assistance from my office sooner, especially given that we have responded to far less critical concerns of his in the past.

After hearing of Justice Fisher's recent public comments, I personally attempted to reach out to him to discuss these serious allegations, but he has regrettably declined to engage in any dialogue. This refusal only adds to the confusion and concern around his motives.

As the Sheriff of Jefferson County, my commitment extends to all citizens and elected officials alike, without prejudice. The role of an elected official, particularly one who professes to uphold Christian values as a man of the cloth or ordained minister, Justice Fisher does, should be anchored in truth and integrity. It is crucial, especially during these challenging times, that we refrain from exploiting the emotions of our citizens with misleading statements that serve personal or political agendas.

We stand ready to protect all members of our community and continue to urge all county officials, including Justice Fisher, to work collaboratively towards a resolution that upholds fairness and integrity, ensuring that our government functions effectively and equitably for the benefit of all Jefferson County residents.
